Diuretics (such as hydrochlorothiazide derivatives) serve as the primary drug treatment for Meniere's disease and help reduce the frequency of attacks by suppressing the excessive production of endolymph. However, depending on the patient's constitution and lifestyle, their effectiveness may be limited, or attacks may recur even while taking the medication. In such cases, we consider reinforcing a low-salt diet, managing stress, and administering additional medications (corticosteroid injections, intratympanic gentamicin injections). Dongjedang believes that if attacks persist despite taking diuretics, it is necessary to address the spleen and stomach functions that cause water metabolism and kidney deficiency, going beyond simply suppressing symptoms with medication. We utilize herbal medicines that remove dampness from the body and manage dizziness, as well as those that treat phlegm and dizziness, to dissolve phlegm and restore water circulation. These are administered concurrently with diuretics, spaced apart over time. The process of gradually reducing diuretics is also carried out in stages in communication with the attending physician.
